 In News

Mature woodland, frosty mornings and a crispness in the air are just some of the joys that autumn brings in County Kerry. Autumn is an ideal time for families, groups and couples to plan a short getaway to Kerry.

Here’s some great things to do during your stay in Kerry over the Autumn;

There are endless options in County Kerry for Mountain climbs & hikes, with the fresh, breezy Autumn weather making it an ideal time to have an exhilarating adventure.  Kerry is home to Carrauntoohil, the McGillycuddy’s Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland which rises to a height of over 1000 metres. You have every type of challenge available from the handy climb to the top of Torc Mountain to the more extreme challenges of Carrauntoohil and the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks with its many knife edged ridges. The Mountains in Kerry stretch over much of the entire County. Nearly all of the Dingle Peninsula rises from the Atlantic Ocean to great heights, and Torc and Mangerton along with Purple are just a few of many near Killarney.

Scenic road trips are a must. From rugged coastlines to charming villages, bustling towns all bursting with history and culture; Kerry has it all for sightseeing. The most popular driving route, is the famous Ring of Kerry, 179km circular route around the Iveragh Peninsula. The great thing about road trips is you can go at your own pace and even go off the beaten track to some of the hidden spots!

Killarney National Park is a favourite for many, particularly if you like spending time outside and enjoy a walk in old mature woodland. The woodlands are spectacular during autumn.

The autumn is also the time for the red deer go into their annual rut and the stags bellow loudly for a month or so. If you are patient you will be able to see great battles between rival Stags and guaranteed to hear the ghost like sounds around the Lakes of Killarney and the National Park.

If you like the outdoors, Autumn is also a good time to embrace all the outdoor activities you want; from hill-walking, cycling or even pony trekking or you can join some of the many guided walking tours. Killarney National Park alone has a staggering 26,000 acres of mountains, lakes, woods and waterfalls for you to discover.  You can choose from low level parkland walks around beautiful lakes and through ancient oak woods, to higher level hill walks on old coach roads and bridle paths.

You’ll never tire of the Breezy beach walks. Kerry is also home to some of the most stunning and picturesque beaches in Ireland & the world. Rossbeigh beach is a 6 km long, sandy beach with spectacular views over beautiful Dingle Bay and it is one of the best beaches in the area. There are a long list of beaches to choose from, such Ballinskelligs beach,  Ceann Trá beach and White Strand.

Charming villages & bustling towns, day or night. Kerry is known to provide visitors with the perfect combination of nature and bustling, charming towns. It has a long tradition of entertaining people and provides endless options for evening entertainment, traditional music and dining.
