An Autumn getaway with Kerry Holiday Homes!
Once the summer sun makes way for the autumn breeze, Killarney still makes the perfect getaway for families, groups and couples. Let’s face it Killarney is a bustling and beautiful town all year round, the sun is only the icing on the cake.
Here’s some great things to do during your stay in Killarney over Autumn;
Take a trip into the Killarney National park to see our Native Red Deer herds. You can see Red Deer in Killarney all year round but for us the best times are in the late Spring for calving and most spectacular in the Autumn for the Annual “Deer Rut”. The best time to observe the Deer Rut is generally the second week in October each year. If you are patient or lucky you will be able to see great battles between rival Stags and guaranteed to hear the ghost like sounds around the Lakes of Killarney and the National park.
Killarney’s amazing hotel spas will definitely soften any wet, dreary days we may get from time to time. Who wouldn’t want to get pampered in a hotel overlooking the lakes of Killarney or mountains. Some of our favourites include The Europe Hotel, Muckross Park Hotel and Spa or the Brehon, but there are so many to choose from. Or if thats not for you, our homely holiday homes are made for cosy days and nights indoors. With views of the mountains and all the amenities you need, we have you covered for any wet days.
If you like the outdoors, Autumn is still a good time to get your walk on with the many guided walking tours we have on our doorstep or you can set off on your own adventure. Killarney National Park alone has a staggering 26,000 acres of mountains, lakes, woods and waterfalls for you to discover. You can choose from low level parkland walks around beautiful lakes and through ancient oak woods, to higher level hill walks on old coach roads and bridle paths, or for the more adventurous, take on the 3000ft plus summits of the MacGillicuddy Reeks!
We are never short of good places to eat either, you can walk down the town and take your pick from a number of cuisines other than traditional Irish obviously.
The INEC Killarney is also the place to be this Autumn with several international acts performing throughout the season. The one and only international Irish Dancing phenomenon Riverdance takes place on September 16th. Albert Hammond is also performing in September, followed by the legend Cliff Richard!
You can pretend to be posh & go for a scrumptious afternoon tea. Curl up by the open fires, get a good book and feast on mini desserts, yummy sandwiches & tasty bites at many of the hotels around Killarney.
You can experience many wonderful cycles if that’s your thing, taking in the autumnal colours of Killarney National Park and Gap of Dunloe, and at the same time local Irish History and Culture.
That is a short summary of Killarney in the Autumn, but there is so much more and our host Denise would be happy to point you in the right direction and also offers a number of tour experiences from Kerry Holiday Homes.
