When staying in Beaufort, you are on the doorstep of The Gap of Dunloe, which is a narrow breath-taking mountain pass running north-south in County Kerry, that separates the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range in the west, from the Purple Mountain Group range in the east. You can hire a jaunting car (horse drawn wagon) to travel through the Pass, take a leisurely walk or even take a boat back to Killarney from Lord Brandon’s cottage at the other end. It also makes a good challenging day’s exercise by bicycle.

At ‘Kate’s’ you will enjoy the tradition of hospitality and after a day’s sightseeing, you can stop in for a taste of Kate Kearney’s famous pub grub, washed down with one of the finest pints in the Kingdom! Within easy walking distance from Kate Kearney’s cottage is a picturesque old bridge known as the ‘Wishing Bridge’. It is said that wishes made here really do come true!
